False Creek Ferries
False Creek Ferries is a privately-owned ferry operator based on Granville Island in Vancouver. It has been operating since 1982 and serves nine dock locations along the False Creek inlet, offering frequent connections between downtown Vancouver, the West End, Yaletown, Kitsilano, and other waterfront stops.
The service is designed both for local transport and sightseeing. One of its most used routes links the Aquatic Centre dock at Sunset Beach to Granville Island every five minutes (and at peak times every two minutes) with a very short sailing time of circa 3 minutes.
Other longer routes run every 7-15 or 15 minutes throughout the day, linking Granville Island with stops such as Yaletown / David Lam Park, Stamp’s Landing, Spyglass, Plaza of Nations and Olympic Village / Science World.
The fare structure is clearly laid out online: for example, the Aquatic Centre ↔ Granville Island adult single ticket is CAD 4, return CAD 7, and a day-pass CAD 20. Seniors and children pay reduced fares accordingly.
From a user-experience perspective, the frequent departures and central-city docks make it a very convenient option for both commuters and tourists looking for an alternative route across the water rather than via land transit. The smaller size of the vessels gives a more intimate, scenic ride.
On the caution side, since it is a small-vessel operation (and privately run), capacity is limited compared to large ferry systems: during busy periods or in inclement weather service may be a little more subject to delay or crowding. Some users have noted that while the frequency is high, the boats are small and standing room may be required. From review data, users generally rate the service highly in terms of views and convenience, but less so in terms of space and vehicle access (since vehicles are not carried).
For sightseeing, False Creek Ferries also offers private charter or small-group cruises (e.g., 12-passenger or 20-passenger vessels) at hourly rates for special occasions.
In summary, False Creek Ferries presents a highly accessible, frequent ferry service in Vancouver’s central waterfront zone — ideal for foot passengers exploring or commuting along False Creek. It may be less suited for travellers needing vehicle transport or large baggage / specialised accessibility beyond its standard small-boat setup.
